Amended Scott County School Board Writ of Election JACKSON—Governor Phil Bryant has accommodated a request by Scott County officials to reset the date of the special election of the school board by issuing an amended Writ of Election setting April 7, 2015, as the new election date. This action is the result of county officials recently determining that school district lines were not in compliance with federal law and requesting an opportunity to address those issues. On February 11, 2014, the five members of the Scott County Board of Education tendered their joint resignations, effective February 28, 2014. A Scott County School District superintendent will be appointed by the Scott County Board of Education after the special election. On February 25, 2014, Gov. Bryant, in response to the Resolution and request of the Mississippi Board of Education, issued a Proclamation authorizing the State Board and the Department of Education to take appropriate and necessary corrective actions to address the safety, security and educational interests of the children of the Scott County School District. The qualifying date for the election will now commence on January 7, 2015, and the qualifying deadline will be February 6, 2015. ###
